Band Members Pipe Major
Iain McNeill Iain was formerly a piper with the grade I Polkemmet Pipe Band and has been with us for some years now. He was P/Sgt until the retirement of P/M Robert Pearson in November 2000. Pipe Sergeant
Irene Robinson Irene is our only female band member and has also taken her turn as Band Chairman. She originally learnt to play the pipes with The City of London Girl Pipers which was an Irish Band. Pipe Corporal
Ian Freeman Ian is another long standing member of the band and has also held most of the offices within the committee. Pipers
Colin Campbell Colin is long serving piper having previously held most of the offices within the committee.
Jim Garrioch Jim started with the Kirkwall City Pipe Band in 1952 and was later a member of the Clan Macleod Pipe Band (Grade 3) in Liverpool. On moving to Poole he became a founder member of the Ringwood Pipe Band in 1972 being pipe sergeant and pipe major at various points in his career. Jim now carries out most of the teaching of beginners.
George Woods George joined the band in 1994, having had a rest from the pipes for 40 years since he played in the school pipe band in Ireland.
Richard Liddell Richard began learning to play the pipes in Zimbabwe in 1969 and has been a member of bands in Rhodesia (Salisbury Caledonian Society Pipe Band), South Africa (Pietermaritzburg Caledonian Soc. Pipe Band, East London Caledonian Soc. Pipe Band), and the USA (Fort Collins Pipe Band, Colorado), before joining the Ringwood Pipe Band in 1995.
Alasdair Macleod Alasdair started playing with the band after taking up the pipes six years ago. He is our treasurer.
Gibby Hamilton Gilbert "Gibby" started having lessons with the band having bought his first chanter 40 years ago. He now plays with the band and is our quartermaster. Jim Wright Jim took up the pipes after 35 years off! After two years of tuition, Jim now turns out regularly with the band and is our secretary.
Campbell de Burgh OBE Campbell took up piping on turning 40 while serving in the Royal Navy at Bath. He revived the Royal Naval Pipers Society (RNPS) and became its secretary for several years before retiring from the Navy in 1999. He is currently the membership secretary for the RNPS and chairman of the Ringwood Band committee.
Martin Nolan Martin is a piper of long standing recently moved to the area. An Irishman of note!
Alex Drummond Alex, originally from South Africa, brought his daughter along to learn and ended up learning himself.
Robert Connell Rob joined recently and is catching up fast with the band tunes.
Drum Corps Drum Sergeant

Joe Layden Joe learnt to play the side drum in the late sixties early seventies at Queen Victoria School, Dunblane, and twenty five years later he joined the Oxford Pipes and Drums. Eight years on, after moving area, Joe is with us and enjoys playing band engagements more than ever. He is also the Band's assistant secretary. Drummers
Nigel Ball Nigel came to the band to learn the pipes but ended up playing the bass drum. Possibly encouraged by his impressive stature he is usually at the centre of most photographs and expertly provides us with a "steady" beat.
Garreth Ball Garreth joined to find out where his Dad went every Tuesday. He plays the side drum with youthful enthusiasm and enjoys trips abroad!
Michael Eaton Michael is a keen musician who has recently taken up tenor drum, occasionally playing bass and also enjoys trips abroad.
John Bibby recently moved to Swanage and is providing excellent support to the drum corps from his extensive experience of Pipe Bands and drumming.
L to R Ken Stead, Joe Layden and Digby Wallis Digby Wallis was formerly a military drummer and has successfully converted to side and tenor drum. Ken Stead also a former military drummer, is a current member of the Corps Of Drums Society and enjoys playing the different styles of side drum. click here to return to about us |
